Since the creation of the Ultimate Fighting Championships in 1993, mixed martial arts promotions have been increasing in number. Currently there are at least 60 promotions for MMA globally. Most have started out as local organizations, but some have been able to promote fights just about anywhere, now that the popularity of the sport has grown so much. Most of these promotions serve as farm leagues for the two big promotions, namely the Ultimate Fighting Championships and Pride Fighting.

Some of the bigger ones below Pride and the UFC are Cage Rage, Bodog Fight, King of the Cage, Pancrase, Gladiator Challenge, and Rage in the Cage. Women have the Fatal Femmes promotion out of Las Vegas, as well as many sanctioned fights with other promotions.

The IFC Caged Combat is attracting some big names to their cards in Vegas as well. Hawaii has Rumble World Entertainment promotions which attracts fighters from the Americas and the Orient. Bodog is investing heavily into the promotion of the sport and is up to staging a fight every couple of days out of the resort area of Costa Rica.

Other minor promotions include: Cage of Honor, Cagewarriors, Cage Fury Fighting Championships, CombatZone, Masters of the Cage, Pure Force, Ring of Combat, Ring of Fire, Total Combat, World Combat League, World Extreme Cage Fighting, World Fighting Championships, World Fighting League, and the Xtreme Fighting Organization.

There are not too many areas in North America that don’t have a promotion doing local fights. We can’t all get to Vegas or Ireland to see a live UFC event, but we can see good MMA fights just about everywhere in North America if one looks for the local promotions. As interest climbs for the sport, so will promotions of fights. Check out your local box office for nearby promotions and maybe you’ll see a future MMA superstar in your own backyard.
